Mossadegh Dr Mohammad Mossadegh [1882-1967] - Leader of the
national movement of Iran.
Mossadegh was the first democratically elected prime minister of Iran
[1953]. He was and remains a national hero for his deep love for his
country and his abiding wish to free Iran from foreign influence. After
nationalizing the oil industry, Iranian Prime Minister Mohammad Mossadegh was
overthrown in a coup orchestrated by the CIA and British intelligence. The
ouster of Mossadegh was the first successful coup planned and executed by
the CIA.
